Night photography, art in the twilight
Photography is about capturing light or, rather, freezing its impact on matter. Initially, we did it on a plate; then, on film; later, on a digital medium, and now, we store our photos in what is called the cloud. In any case, the essence of the art and technique of capturing images of illuminated reality is exactly the same: it has not changed since its invention two centuries ago. Since light is a sine qua non for photography, its nocturnal practice, with artificial light or (almost) in darkness, takes on a magical value.
Good photos in low light, desirable and easy
How to get quality photographs at night, under the moon, by the light of street lamps, or in almost complete darkness? The internet is full of tutorials and guides that are very useful with practical advice and —don't worry— understandable for everyone. It's highly recommended to take a look at them with your camera in hand.
Sensitivity, shutter speed, aperture, motion management... At night, all variables become more important, and the amateur photographer should even consider giving up the automatic mode and opting for manual. It's also necessary to consider movement, the use of a tripod, mirror lock-up, long exposures, and noise reduction. And most importantly: what is being photographed. The object or subject being captured.
Fotografiar La Rotonda de noche tiene premio
Núñez y Navarro invite you in their Instagram contest #MiraLaRotonda, which is still ongoing, to make the subject of your nighttime photos one of the city's most iconic buildings. It's about the modernist Andreu tower, commonly known as La Rotonda, whose restoration is nearing completion and was recently presented.
